How Kickstart works....

Kickstart aims to help people access work, work training or further education.

The process is simple; you start by completing an application form and send it to Kickstart. You can download a form from the Download section. Once we’ve got it we’ll phone you to discuss your personal transport issue.

To be eligible you need to have (or be able to get) a provisional driving licence. If you have points on your licence, we may still be able to help you. We’ll need a copy of your licence to check this.

You will need to have a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT for short) test, and  we will pay the cost of this for you. We will also provide you with safety clothing (helmet, armoured jacket, gloves and wet-weather suit).

If you’re under 18 we’ll need to have signatures from your parent or guardian to say they agree to you taking part in the scheme. Our current programmes are:

Gifting - You end up owning your own moped1 You pay us £40 a week for 15 weeks. We cover the cost of the CBT test and all of the clothing. We help you set up an insurance policy covering the new moped you’ll be getting, and we pay for the insurance deposit to get you going. This includes a breakdown policy for emergencies. If you’re over 18 you may be able to pay the rest of the cost of the insurance monthly.

You’ll get a brand-new moped issued and, once you’ve paid us your 15 weekly payments the bike gets transferred into your name – you own your own moped!

Further Education - If you're stuck for transport to get to college or training, Connexions may be able to pay for you to have a loaned moped. Speak to your Connexions adviser, or call us for more information.

Entry to Employment - If you’re looking to do an E2E course the people that you do your training with may be able to pay for you to use one of our mopeds while you complete your course. Get them to give us a ring to discuss whether we can set this up for you.

Children’s Services - If you’re a Looked After young person, Children’s Services may pay for a moped for you to use. Speak to your Social Worker about it and ask them to phone us.
